RegionalCare Enhances Clinical Care Delivery with Access to Comprehensive Patient Information

RegionalCare Hospital Partners is providing healthcare professionals and patients with seamless access to comprehensive, longitudinal records that capture clinical information from various care settings across the enterprise. The health system is working with RelayHealth, an industry leader in bringing together multi-vendor data for a single view of the patient.

By leveraging this single view, clinicians can improve care delivery and patients can become more proactively engaged in their own care. As a result, the Brentwood, Tennessee-based RegionalCare Hospital Partners - which includes nine rural hospitals and affiliated physician practices located across several states - expects to experience the improved outcomes and reduced costs vital to success under value-based programs.

"Creating a single, consolidated record loomed over us as a great challenge for quite some time," said Mark Gilliam, chief information officer for RegionalCare. "We didn't have a standard footprint but realized that our health system needed to make it easy for every clinician and patient in the market we serve to interact with us in a seamless manner."

To achieve this goal, the health system relied on RelayHealth's Connected Care solution to create a record that consists of data culled from multiple vendors' electronic health record (EHR) systems installed across the healthcare enterprise. In addition to creatinga single view, RegionalCare is enabling patients to access this information through the RelayHealth patient portal. The portal allows patients to use a single sign-on to view their comprehensive records - instead of snippets drawn from individual systems - and lets them directly connect with providers. Such engagement can help physicians and patients work together toward improved health outcomes.

"Meeting meaningful use goals quickly was just the tip of the iceberg," said Ken Tarkoff, senior vice president and general manager, RelayHealth. "We collaborated with RegionalCare to focus on the bigger picture and transform this project into a strategic initiative. Our goal is to power the interoperability and patient engagement that will lead to improved outcomes and reduce costs, both of which are critical to long-term success under value-based care models."

RelayHealth worked closely with RegionalCare to complete the systems integration and access initiative in just nine months. The team streamlined the implementation process, leaning heavily on RelayHealth's extensive experience and vendor-agnostic approach in creating interoperability among disparate EHRs in significantly shortened timeframes.
