MRV Introduces New Optical Programmability and Flexible Bandwidth Capacity Capabilities on the OptiDriver™ Platform

MRV Communications (News - Alert)™, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVC) ("MRV®"), a global provider of innovative packet and optical solutions, today announced it has enhanced its flagship OptiDriver™ optical transport product line with dynamic wavelength routing for intelligent optical network control capabilities. MRV has strengthened its OptiDriver platform to enable service providers to create a more seamless transition to automated, flexible networks to intelligently support unpredictable traffic and bandwidth needs.

Industry experts agree that optical transport networks are transitioning from static to dynamic architectures to enable more efficient traffic engineering for non-deterministic mobile, video and cloud service traffic patterns. Dynamic wavelength routing allows individual wavelengths to move flexibly across the network via software, making it simpler for operators to add new services or address changing service demands. Built on Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM (News - Alert)) hardware, this approach is especially useful in ring and mesh networks where demands are large and unpredictable due to redundant paths to multiple locations or multiple links between locations.

The enriched OptiDriver solution is fully integrated into MRV's advanced Pro-Vision® service provisioning and management software that enables remote point-and-click service turn up and circuit reconfiguration. In combination with the highly programmable ROADM and open LINUX operating software, the OptiDriver solution contains the comprehensive building blocks for optical SDN. This approach reduces time-to-revenue and saves operational expenses to significantly increase service velocity and deliver an improved ROI.

"MRV provides the intelligence to simplify optical network deployments and operations so customers can maximize network and service resiliency. The addition of dynamic wavelength routing to our OptiDriver portfolio reflects our ongoing progress in optical transport solutions and our ability to meet the needs of today's erratic network environments," said Eli Laufer, vice president, Global Research & Development, MRV Communications.
