Five Leading Transportation Organizations Join Intelligent Transportation Society of America Leadership CircleFive of the nation's prestigious and innovative transportation organizations have joined the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) Leadership Circle, as announced today by ITS America Interim President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas E. Kern. AAA, General Motors (News - Alert), the Michigan Mobility Transformation Center, New York City Department of Transportation and Parkmobile will join the 36 established members, bringing the total number of Leadership Circle member organizations to 41. "These companies and organizations represent the very best in transportation innovation and ingenuity," Kern said. "Technology is helping revolutionize mobility and is central to advancing a safer, smarter, more efficient and sustainable transportation future. We are thrilled to bring these transportation leaders and innovators to the table to help find solutions to some of the key challenges facing our nation's transportation system." The Leadership Circle brings together transportation and technology visionaries from the public, private and academic sectors as thought leaders on behalf of ITS America and the broader transportation community. Together, the Leadership Circle develops strategic approaches to improve the nation's transportation systems through innovative intelligent transportation solutions. About the new Leadership Circle members: AAA: Established in 1902 by nine motor clubs with fewer than 1,500 members, AAA is one of America's leading travel and transportation safety advocates with 54 million members in the United States and Canada. General Motors: With more than 200-thousand employees and automotive manufacturing and sales interests around the world, GM is one of America's best-known brands. The company is also an innovation leader with announced plans to offer new semi-autonomous driving features and V2V communication capability in some 2017 Cadillacs. Michigan Mobility Transformation Center: The University of Michigan developed the Michigan Mobility Transformation Center as one of the nation's leading research and development institutions for connected and autonomous vehicles. Working with government and industry the center's objectives are to improve safety, sustainability and accessibility through technology and innovation. New York City DOT: New York City's Department of Transportation is widely recognized not only as the largest municipal DOT but also as one of the most progressive. With more than 4,500 employees and one of the most complex urban transportation networks in the world, the New York City DOT manages 6,000 miles of streets and highways.
