Commercial NGH-Compliant Networks Go Live in China and Americas; Technology Built on AccuROAM from Accuris Networks

Accuris Networks Provides Technology to Wireless Broadband Alliance for NGH Wi-Fi Hotspot at Mobile World Congress Mobile World Congress -- Barcelona, Spain, and Los Gatos, Calif.– March 3, 2015 – Visitors to Mobile World Congress will benefit from secure, seamless Wi-Fi roaming with Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) and Passpoint™/Hotspot 2.0 technology from the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA). Innovator Accuris Networks is lending its technology to this solution at the conference, and with a commercial version is helping its carrier customers in China and North and South America to provide seamless, secure Wi-Fi roaming as well. These carriers are among the first to begin using this advanced NGH-compliant network to give customers fast, secure roaming between networks, countries and carriers.

The NGH standard, initiated by the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), improves and streamlines Wi-Fi connectivity using standardized technology and has been called the future of Wi-Fi. The NGH hotspots at MWC and elsewhere can now interconnect and interwork because of Accuris Networks' award-winning AccuROAM platform.

Users increasingly take advantage of public Wi-Fi for network connectivity, especially when travelling, but have long disliked the challenges of complicated, exasperating sign-on processes. Carriers face operational and service-delivery issues arising from discontinuity between differing network types and also need improved security, authentication, charging and policy capabilities. Public Wi-Fi is now on track to live up to its promise as a service-provider revenue generator.

“Making Wi-Fi networks behave like mobile networks for offload and when roaming is what our customers desire,” said Jeff Brown, CEO of Accuris Networks. “When carriers use Accuris Networks’ technology, NGH networks have a secure authentication framework for connecting mobile devices to cellular networks without the need to enter cumbersome usernames and passwords. They also take advantage of effective charging and policy control. These first deployments of NGH-compliant networks by our worldwide carrier customers are leading the way to a carrier Wi-Fi ecosystem that will overcome current network limitations." Accuris Networks is one of the companies working with the WBA to create NGH standards and participating in trials of the technology. CEO Shrikant Shenwai of the Wireless Broadband Alliance said, "Accuris Networks is an important collaborator, contributing its unique technology but also its knowledge of customer needs due to its numerous successful integrations of Wi-Fi, GSM and CDMA networks." Accuris Networks will be at Mobile World Congress at Hall 7, stand 7F70.
