Gustavo Marin to Lead First Data Latin America Region


First Data, the global leader in payment technology and services solutions, announced today that financial services industry expert Gustavo Marin will join the company March 1 to lead its business in the Latin America region. Reporting to Chairman and CEO Frank Bisignano, Marin will be based in São Paulo, Brazil, where he has strong ties to the business and government communities. Marin will also become a member of First Data's Management Committee.

First Data provides payment technology solutions to more than 70 financial institutions and 240,000 merchants throughout Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean. With offices in Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Mexico City, First Data employs more than 1,500 people in the region.

In Argentina, First Data provides issuing processing services to more than 40 banks and supports more than 200,000 merchants. Last year, First Data launched a new electronic payment solution for merchants in Brazil called Bin, and offers VisionPLUS payment-processing solutions for issuers. First Data also delivers closed-loop gift card solutions and manages a non-correspondent banking processing solution for 11,000 merchants throughout Brazil.

For more than three decades, Marin has demonstrated exemplary executive leadership in the financial services industry. Marin began his career in 1981 at Citibank in Uruguay and took on increasingly more senior roles for the global firm, rising to lead the Latin America region and become CEO for Citibank Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. He was also a member of Citi's Latin America Management Committee and Citi's Senior Leadership Committee.


Marin is chairman of Santander Asset Management (SAM) Brazil and a board member of Santander Asset Management UK, the holding company of the SAM Group. He served on the Conselho de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social (CDES), the advisory body of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Federation of Banks (FEBRABAN). Marin also served on the Advisory Board of the Brazilian Futures Exchange and as a member of the Client Advisory Board of Thomson (News - Alert) Reuters.
