Xamin Cybersecurity Experts: Preventing Another $1 Billion Heist

Xamin:

WHAT:

Since 2013, as much as $1 billion in American dollars was stolen from financial institutions worldwide, according to a statement from Kaspersky Lab (News - Alert). Unlike many recent breaches, which targeted consumers, hackers used phishing and malware to access the financial institutions' internal networks, administrators' computers and video surveillance systems.

"Once they got into the network, they learned how to hide their malicious plot behind legitimate actions," said Sergey Golovanov, principal security researcher at Kaspersky Lab's Global Research and Analysis Team. Sanjay Virmani, director of the INTERPOL Digital Crime Centre, added that no sector is immune to attack "and must constantly address their security procedures."

Hackers leverage a variety of common ancillary devices that reside on financial institutions' networks, such as printers, scanners, security cameras and others, to easily access internal systems and execute harmful attacks. Xamin, a leading national managed IT service provider for community banks, healthcare and other highly regulated industries, is available to discuss how financial institutions can eliminate these types of threats by taking immediate, proactive steps, including:

-- Effective patch management and code changes to vital systems;
-- Recurring network scans for new and/or previously undetected software;

-- Essential anti-virus and malware detection; and

-- Advanced approaches to the detection and remediation of threats.

Xamin will be available at ICBA Community Banking LIVE (#ICBALive2015), March 1 and 2 in Orlando, Fla. (booth #244), as well as the annual ProfitStars® PEC Educational Conference (#PEC2015), March 16-19 in New Orleans (booth #34).
