Digicel Group Chooses PeerApp to Optimize the Delivery of Internet Content over 4G/LTE Mobile and Broadband Networks

Expansion at key Caribbean Operator Group solidifies PeerApp strength in Region NEWTON, MA – February 24, 2014 – PeerApp, the market leader in fast and efficient Internet content delivery, today announced that the company has been selected by Digicel Group Limited to expand its use of PeerApp’s UltraBand transparent caching solution across all of its Caribbean properties to augment its 4G/LTE mobile and broadband networks. By implementing PeerApp, Digicel will improve Quality of Experience (QoE) for subscribers – by eliminating, for example, buffering and stalls - while at the same time optimizing its networks to reduce costs.

Digicel is a total communications and entertainment with operations in 33 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific. Digicel’s 4G/LTE services give customers the fastest and most reliable mobile and broadband Internet experience using the latest mobile telecommunications technology.

PeerApp’s UltraBand enables operators to serve popular Internet media and entertainment content – of any type – from within their network, rather than the remote content source. This approach speeds delivery up to ten times, greatly improving subscriber QoE, while also lowering cost. Digicel’s vision is to improve subscriber QoE for both mobile and broadband subscribers across all of their properties.

Digicel Group Chief Technology Officer, Razvan Ungureanu, said, “Digicel prides itself on delivering the best value, the best service and the best network and we are always on the lookout for ways to enhance the experience we offer to our valued customers. By adding PeerApp’s market-leading UltraBand solution to our networks, we can deliver even better service to our customers with faster delivery of Internet video and other content.” Mary Valentino, SVP North American and Caribbean Sales for PeerApp, added, “Digicel realized that the explosion of Internet media and entertainment consumption by their growing subscriber base needed to be managed in a cost effective way that also provides their subscribers with the best possible Quality of Experience. We’re thrilled that their initial success in Haiti and Bermuda led to an expansion of PeerApp’s UltraBand transparent caching technology across Digicel’s 4G/LTE and broadband networks.” PeerApp’s field-proven transparent caching solutions are now deployed at over 450 network operators and enterprises worldwide, with many deployments managing 100-500 Gigabit capacity each. PeerApp has also recently announced that it will extend its mobile content acceleration solution to the RAN to help operators meet mobile video demand. PeerApp will showcase its new Mobile Edge Computing solution at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, March 2nd – 5th in Hall 2 Stand 2D50.
