Interop Technologies Selects Taqua for VoWiFi and VoLTE

Interop to Utilize Taqua’s Virtual Mobile Core and Mobile Client Richardson, TX – Feb. 23, 2015 -- Taqua®, LLC, a leading supplier of mobile and fixed communications solutions, applications, and services, announced today that Interop Technologies has selected Taqua’s Virtual Mobile Core and Mobile Client to power the Interop Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service offerings.

Interop Technologies enables telecommunications service providers of all sizes to launch new communication services through flexible deployment options, including the private Interop Cloud™, which utilizes the latest in network function virtualization (NFV) technology, and turnkey services. By incorporating Taqua’s Virtual Mobile Core and Mobile Client into its managed services, Interop enables its customers the ability to quickly launch VoWiFi and VoLTE.

“Mobile network operators are increasingly challenged to provide reliable indoor coverage with a guaranteed voice quality. Achieving this in a cost effective way is requiring operators to look at non-3GPP IP access that can leverage smartphone WiFi capability and minimal cellular network readiness,” said Sathya Atreyam, Research Manager, Wireless Network Infrastructure, IDC. “By adopting newer innovative solutions based on cloud-based service models along with VoWiFi capable smartphones, mobile operators especially in the small to medium category can address their immediate need to roll out carrier grade voice services in an economically efficient manner. Furthermore, it could allow these operators to strategize LTE and VoLTE rollouts as part of the migration plans to an all IP-based mobile voice and messaging network.” Since 2002, Interop has provided mobile network operators core network services including advanced messaging, device activation, and connectivity gateway solutions. VoWiFi and VoLTE are components of Interop’s recently announced CorePlusX? solution - a managed IMS core and IP services suite. CorePlusX? reduces the cost and complexity typically associated with purchasing and deploying an IMS core, a key competitive advantage of the offering. The CorePlusX? IP suite includes VoWiFi, VoLTE, VoLTE-Roaming, RCS and Policy Control.

"The VoWiFi movement is happening right now," said John Dwyer, President and CEO of Interop Technologies. "With the recent launches in the U.S. from T-Mobile, Sprint, Cablevision, and Google, WiFi calling is more than a background feature; it is a key offering for operators. We're glad to work in partnership with Taqua to launch a virtualized VoWiFi offering enabling operators to ride this wave without the need for major capital or significant personnel to do so.” “Interop has an extensive history of helping mobile carriers of every size to cost effectively deliver the most advanced services via their private, secure Interop Cloud™,” said Eric Pratt, Taqua’s CEO. “VoWiFi is an important service offering that every carrier can utilize to solve real-world coverage issues immediately. With Interop’s focus and expertise, mobile operators will be able to leverage this technology that will greatly benefit their subscribers.” Taqua’s Virtual Mobile Core (VMC) is a converged 4G mobile core enabling rapid deployment of next -generation mobile voice and messaging services including VoWiFi, VoLTE and Small Cells. The VMC is a carrier-grade software product that converges a number of 3GPP standard functions including a Telephony Application Server (TAS), IP Short Message Gateway (IP-SM-GW), Service Consistency and Continuity Application Server (SCC-AS), and Media Resource Function (MRF). It works with standards-based VoWiFi clients, such as the native Wi-Fi Calling capability in Apple’s iOS 8 as well as Taqua’s Mobile Client for Android devices.

Taqua’s Mobile Client is a standards-compliant VoWiFi client for smartphones that’s available in embedded and downloadable versions. The Client has been used in all major mobile operator VoWiFi deployments, and is integrated into over one hundred handset models by some of the world’s largest vendors, including Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, Huawei, and ZTE.
