xG Technology CN1300 Access Point Receives FCC Certification, Enabling Commercial Shipment

SARASOTA, Fla., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- xG Technology, Inc. ("xG" or the "Company") (Nasdaq: XGTI, XGTIW; AIM: XGTU.L, XGT.L), a developer of wireless communications and spectrum sharing technologies, is pleased to announce that the xMax CN1300 Access Point has received certification from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The certification allows xG Technology to begin shipments of the product in the U.S. to its current and prospective customers.

The xMax CN1300 is a compact 802.11 (Wi-Fi) access point and antenna combination. Its size and weight have been optimized to allow for easy installation on towers, buildings, or utility poles. The CN1300 is a key element in xMax network infrastructure solutions targeted to the rural broadband sector. It was designed for deployment in a converged, integrated system that includes the xMax CN1100 900MHz Access Point and CN3200 Dual-Band Routing Modem. The CN3200 is an award-winning compact subscriber device that operates in both the 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz spectrum bands, providing automatic switching between the xMax and Wi-Fi protocols depending on the user's application.

This market-unique combination of the two unlicensed (i.e., free-to-use) 900MHz and 2.4GHz spectrum segments provide the following attributes in the same system:

  • fixed location high data rates that far exceed newly released FCC standards for rural broadband throughput.
  • reliable high-speed mobility with handovers between the xMax and Wi-Fi wireless protocols that are seamless and transparent to users.

This makes it a highly profitable solution for WISPs (wireless internet service providers), telcos and other rural service providers.

John Coleman, CEO of xG Technology, said, "We are pleased to receive FCC certification for the CN1300. It is a key networking element in the xMax cognitive radio system that supports the flexible delivery of both fixed and mobile end-user data, video and voice services. This is particularly attractive to rural telco providers, as it opens new revenue opportunities for them in providing services to untapped local markets, including municipal governments and emergency management organizations."

The CN1300 has been engineered with self-organizing networking (SON) technology that enables rapid and treamlined deployment for commercial, private and tactical networks. As part of an xMax cognitive radio network solution, the CN1300 offers maximum coverage, throughput and robustness, while minimizing network deployment and management costs.

xMax is a comprehensive fixed and mobile broadband solution that is designed for rapid deployment and low operating costs. It offers a carrier-grade user experience and can serve as a network backbone or last-mile solution in a number of markets and applications. It leverages software defined radio (SDR) and cognitive networking technology that enables efficient sharing of both licensed and unlicensed spectrum.
