The (ISC)²® Foundation Opens Application Period for 2015 Women's Information Security Scholarships and Faculty Exam Vouchers

The (ISC)² ("ISC-squared") Foundation, a charitable trust that aims to empower students, teachers and the general public to secure their online life with cybersecurity education and awareness programs, today announced the opening of its application period for the 2015 Women's Information Security Scholarship and Faculty Exam Voucher programs. The application periods for both programs close at midnight EDT on March 31, 2015.

The (ISC)² Foundation Scholarship program aims to fill society's need for trained cybersecurity professionals by building the workforce of the future through meaningful scholarships. This program opens doors for current and aspiring information security professionals.

The Women's Scholarship program was created to inspire women to join the ever-growing field of information security. Up to three scholarships totaling up to US$40,000 will be awarded. The Faculty Exam Voucher program was created to encourage more academic participation in the profession and the certification process. Qualified university or college faculty members will be provided with a voucher valid for one CISSP, CSSLP, CAP, CCFP or HCISPP exam and upon certification, the first year of Annual Maintenance Fees.

"Our latest research found that only 11% of the global information security profession is comprised of women," said Julie Peeler, director, (ISC)² Foundation. "As part of our concerted effort to bring more women into the industry, the (ISC)² Foundation introduced the Women's Scholarship program to provide the kind of financial assistance that allows many of these students to continue their studies. Our Faculty Exam Vouchers provide educators with the knowledge and credentials needed to teach students the value of continuing education in a cyber world that's constantly evolving. I look forward to awarding deserving faculty and students through these and other scholarship programs this year."

The (ISC)² Foundation evaluates applicants based on academic excellence, passion for the industry and financial need. The (ISC)² Foundation Scholarship program has already had a lasting impact on these individuals:

"By selectin me, the (ISC)² Foundation gave me a luxury of focusing on my education rather than worrying about how to pay for it," said Lassine Cherif, Ivory Coast. "It gives me a unique opportunity to obtain both a degree and a globally recognized certification; skills that I need to achieve my goal which is to help secure cyberspace."

"Receiving this scholarship affords me the ability to focus on my studies and not be overwhelmed with managing tuition costs," said Katherine McGinn, U.S.A. "I can continue with my cybersecurity program at University of Maryland University College with ease. Thank you to the (ISC)² Foundation Information Security Scholarship Program! I am proud to be a member of the (ISC)² organization."

"I consider this scholarship a recognition and approval of my decision to specialize in cybersecurity as part of my continuing education," said Sreedevi Sreekandan, India. "The award committee also recognized the hard work I put into the first year of the graduate level course work. On a personal level, I believe this award also shows the foundation's commitment to bring more women into the cybersecurity profession and to extend a helping hand in their journey to become a confident and knowledgeable IT security professional. I hope this award will continue to encourage women all over the world to take a keen interest in cybersecurity education in the future."

The (ISC)² Foundation will accept applications for the 2015 Women's Scholarships January 1, 2015 - March 31, 2015 and for Faculty Exam Vouchers January 1, 2015 - December 31, 2015, with the first application period closing March 31, 2015.
