Ruth Westreich,"Good Medicine" Visionary and Philanthropic Leader, Invests in the Academy's Interdisciplinary Model

The Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM) announces a major gift from Ruth Westreich, President of the Westreich Foundation, and the "Good Medicine" Visionary and Philanthropist. The Westreich "We Too Have a Dream" Grant was named to reflect the Academy's vision. Interdisciplinary collaboration is at the heart of the grant and integral to Academy's strategy to transform health care.

As a tireless advocate for the movement toward a new healthcare paradigm that puts resilience, wellbeing and the patient at the center, Ruth is a champion for re-envisioning health care. She understands the multiplier effect when likeminded citizens and practitioners ignite change in unison and empower one another. Ruth sees the Academy's potential to help lead the paradigm shift of our current "disease-care and symptom management model, or sick-care," to a more holistic, integrated model of seeing the person as a complex system.

The Westreich Grant is a testimony to Ruth's commitment to the leadership and vision of Dr. Mimi Guarneri, the Academy's president. Ruth sees Dr. Guarneri's work as "sage and forward thinking" and has been a longtime supporter.

"Mimi Guarneri is a well respected leader in the field of integrative medicine," said Westreich. "She is helping to create the shift in the way we view our health, and the health of our communities. She is a practical visionary in creating a healthcare system for the 21st century and its future demands."

The grant further advances collaboration between the AIHM and the Academic Consortium for Complementary and Alternative Health Care (ACCAHC), another organization for whom Ruth has been a key advisor and supporter for many years.

The Academy's Executive Director, Nancy Sudak, MD, is deeply grateful for Ruth's generosity. "The value of Ruth's investment during this year of transformation cannot be overstated," said Dr. Sudak. "Few philanthropists offer what Ruth brings to the movement-expertise, passion and comprhensive engagement to transforming health care. We are thankful to have Ruth as a partner and advocate as we elevate whole-person integrative health and medicine together."
