Capstone Law APC Promotes Senior Counsel Glenn Danas to Partner

Capstone Law APC, a Los Angeles-based class action firm, has promoted Glenn Danas to the partnership of the firm. Mr. Danas previously served as Senior Counsel to the firm, and manages Capstone's (News - Alert) Appeals and Complex Motions department.

Mr. Danas has argued more than twenty appeals in the California Courts of Appeal, the United States Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit, and the California Supreme Court. Mr. Danas was recently lead counsel in the highly-publicized California Supreme Court decision Iskanian v. CLS Transportation Los Angeles, which established that waivers of the California Labor Code's Private Attorney General Act (PAGA) are unenforceable. More recently, he was the lead in Baumann vs. Chase Investment Services, in which the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held that state court actions brought solely under PAGA are not removable under either the Class Action Fairness Act (CAFA) or traditional diversity jurisdiction.

Remarking on being selected to join Capstone's partnership, Mr. Danas reported, "I am very excited to continue working at one of California's premier class action firms. Capstone has been at the forefront of some of the most significant developments in employment and class action law over the last several years, and is poised to continuethat trend with several other high profile cases that are currently working their way through the courts."

Prior to joining Capstone, Mr. Danas successfully briefed and argued the precedent-setting appeal in Brown v. Ralph's Grocery Co., 197 Cal. App. 4th 489 (2011), regarding the enforceability of PAGA waivers in mandatory arbitration agreements. He also won an appeal regarding a novel application of CAFA's "local controversy exception" in Coleman v. Estes Express Lines, Inc., 631 F.3d 1010 (9th Cir. 2011), making new law in the process.

According to Capstone partner Rebecca Labat, "Glenn's major role in winning some of Capstone's landmark appeals, as well as his skill in managing complex motions and briefing strategy for the firm make him a natural fit for partnership at Capstone."

Mr. Danas is a graduate of Emory University School of law, where he was a board member of the Law Review and graduated with honors. He received his undergraduate degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. Mr. Danas is admitted to practice in California and before the United States District Court for the Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He was recognized by the Daily Journal as one of California's Top 20 Lawyers Under 40 in 2013.
