BioUtah Co-Founder and CEO Kimball Thomson Resigns to Focus on Writing, Media, Advocacy

BioUtah today announced president and CEO Kimball Thomson (News - Alert) has resigned his position to devote his time and energy to his passions of authorship, radio hosting/producing, advocacy, and consulting in organizational and communications strategy.

"As I leave my full-time role at BioUtah to embark on my next career adventure, the overwhelming feeling I have is one of gratitude for the phenomenal people who made this opportunity possible," said Thomson. "The past several years have been among the most rewarding of my life, both professionally and personally, enabling me to build on existing and enduring relationships."

Thomson co-founded BioUtah in November 2012, and assumed the role of president and CEO at inception. Since that time, under Thomson's leadership, BioUtah has achieved a variety of significant milestones, including the unification of Utah's life science organizations -- enabling them to come together, speak with one voice and work collaboratively with numerous stakeholders, including elected officials, educators, investors and innovators, to improve Utah's already successful business environment.

Kimball has poured his heart and soul into establishing BioUtah and placing it on solid footing," said Rich Linder, co-founder of BioUtah and chair of its Board of Directors. "BioUtah would not exist today were it not for Kimball Thomson and his tremendous effort and commitment to Utah's life science companies. The BioUtah Executive Board wishes Kimball nothing but the best as he pursues the next steps of his professional career. I am pleased to report that BioUtah is strong, and enjoys active participation and leadership from its executive board, which consists of some of Utah's most experienced life science executives."

"Establishing a successful life science organization in a time of such great market headwinds is not for the faint of heart, and would not have been possible without the brilliant, dedicated courageous group of colleagues, board members, sponsors and volunteers," said Thomson. "Led by an executive board of proven industry leaders, I have every confidence that BioUtah is in excellent hands, now and in the future."

The BioUtah Executive Board will conduct a search for the association's new Chief Executive. Effective today, Rich Linder, BioUtah's co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors, will assume additional temporary responsibilities until a new chief executive has been appointed. Additionally, Susannah Hutchins, Director of Operations, will serve as BioUtah's acting executive during the transition.
