OMREX Cyber Holiday Review: Samsung Beats Apple

Samsung has finally beaten Apple - at least it has when it comes to mentions of their wearables on eBay (News - Alert), according to the 2014 OMREX Cyber Holiday Review. Monitis, the application performance monitoring specialist, administered the review to monitor transaction activities on eBay during this year's Thanksgiving holiday shopping period. The research looked at smart watches from ten different manufacturers, including Samsung and Apple (News - Alert), and found that the Samsung Galaxy Gear was by far the most frequently mentioned product among the monitored competitors. While the review included the potential heydays of Black Friday (News - Alert) and Cyber Monday, Monitis did not discover any significant peak. The real news might just be that wearables do not yet seem to be as big of a trend as some pundits envisioned when Apple announced "one more thing" earlier this year.

For this OMREX review, Monitis set up a custom monitoring script that counted the total mentions of the targeted wearables on eBay's website. Based on the sheer numbers, the Samsung Galaxy Gear series came out on top with a huge margin over the Apple Watch. By the end of Cyber Monday, the ranking was the following:

1.) Samsung Galaxy Gear

2.) Apple Watch

3.) Pebble Smartwatch

4.) Sony Smartwatch

5.) Motorola (News - Alert) Moto 360

6.) LG G Watch R

7.) Fitbit Surge

8.) HP MB Chronowing, Intel (News - Alert) Mica, Geak Watch II

"First and foremost, it is important to understand what these numbers say," explains Mikayel Vardanyan, General Manager at Monitis. "It was just counting how many times a specific item was mentioned on eBay. It does not say anything about revenue and so forth. However, you would expect a higher number of mentions for items at the center of an ongoing shopping spree - and the overall count was fairly low. We could not even identify any considerable rises or falls."

A custom monitoring approach such as the 2014 OMREX Cyber Holiday review can help organizations gain valuable insights into targeted markets. It helps to identify potential weak spots, market overviews and potential areas for improvement. Monitis recommends developing an adequate monitoring strategy to meet the individual and the standard needs of an organization. Key concerns may include Uptime Monitoring, Full Page Load Monitoring, Application Monitoring, Real User Monitoring and more.
