Array Networks Joins the OPNFV Project

Array Networks Inc., a worldwide provider of application delivery networking solutions, today announced it has joined the OPNFV Project, a community-led, industry-supported open source reference platform for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), as silver founding member.

OPNFV is leveraging the benefits of open source and bringing together end users and vendors to develop an integrated and tested NFV platform that can accelerate the introduction of new products and services. The project will establish a carrier-grade, integrated, open source reference platform that industry peers will build together to advance the evolution of NFV and to ensure consistency, performance and interoperability among multiple open source components.

As enterprises are increasingly taking advantage of cloud principles such as virtualization and automation to streamline operations and maximize utilization of their IT infrastructure, Array is committed to meeting these demands and ensuring high-level application delivery performance solutions across cloud environments. NFV and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) solutions are playing a major role in the overall industry shift toward network and application virtualization, and Array has already introduced significant forward-looking products APIs and tools to support the shift toward the virtualized networking landscape. Moving forward into 2015, Array will continue its efforts on developing next-generation software-centric application delivery solutions for IaaS, SaaS and enterprise priate clouds, allowing end customers to easily manage and adapt their virtual environments as needed.

By joining the OPNFV project, Array has the opportunity to collaborate with other industry leaders to map out the best practices needed to advance the evolution of NFV. The goal is to cooperatively develop a reference platform that advances the evolution of NFV and ensures integration, and interoperability among new products and services to support a new wave of dynamic network environments.

"With the industry shifting toward SDN and NFV, it is evident that open source is the way to go to develop dynamic network environments," said Michael Zhao, president and CEO of Array Networks (News - Alert). "We are pleased to collaborate with the industry and the open source community to contribute to the development of OPNFV."

"OPNFV is about global participation by a diverse group of suppliers to create an open platform that we can all use to achieve the promise of NFV," said Margaret Chiosi, president, OPNFV. "With increasing interest throughout the industry, the project is poised to play a key role in the acceleration and availability of NFV. We welcome our new silver members, Array Networks, Midokura, Ooredoo and Sonus Networks, who represent the types of members we need, in helping us implement the goals of open source NFV."

OPNFV is supported by 44 member companies and has formed a Technical Steering Committee (TSC) to establish technical direction for the project, and is currently working on the project's first code release slated for 2015. Anyone can participate in the open source community, regardless of affiliation or location. Technology contributions, concepts or ideas can be shared here. Join the discussions, listen to the debates and contribute to the advancement of open source NFV.
