Brinham brings to Smithers Viscient a broad experience of managing chemistry businesses and a demonstrated track record of tangible process improvement, through using process enhancement strategies Kaizen and Six Sigma. This will allow the Chemistry department at the CRO to continue meeting customer requirements as the demand for improved turnaround time increases.

Brinham, who previously worked in the Oil & Gas sector including nearly 20 years at ICI, will bring not just a great deal of knowledge of business development and growth coupled with a strong scientific base, but his background will help to develop new markets for Smithers Viscient.

David Phillips, Smithers Viscient's MD stated: "I am delighted to welcome Robin to Smithers Viscient. He is a great addition to our leadership team in Europe. Robin is an experienced chemist and business manager with a proven track record of success in the chemistry based markets. He has 26 years of R&D experience mostly within the oil and gas industr, and will be a great lead for to the chemistry team."

Brinham's most recent role saw him responsible for R&D, polymer and materials testing, efficient waste management and lean manufacturing. He is already contributing his expertise into several on-going projects and is managing a new, fully integrated pharmaceutical testing programme for a biotech company.

Brinham's appointment comes as the CRO is experiencing a sizable increase in demand for its analytical support services for environmental compliance.

This upsurge is being driven by an increased demand for stand-alone cold chemistry analysis - both routine and monitoring - REACH and confirmatory support work for Smithers Viscient's other growing Ecotox and PDT departments.

As such, Smithers Viscient is planning to scale up the Chemistry department and will be implementing a comprehensive equipment advancement over the next few months. This will include bolstering the mass spectrometry suite and further increasing the department's capabilities and services.
