As an early adopter and ardent supporter of the virtualization methodology, Suzanne explains the decision making process prior to deployment, nonobvious considerations when deciding to virtualize, trials and tribulations along the way and how to avoid them, as well as real-life wins achieved in the process and advice to attendees. Suzanne has been in software development for nearly 20 years. She currently manages a Service Virtualization development team that designs and delivers virtual services to the Nordstrom IT Enterprise to support early development and testing. She has also managed teams of test automation engineers and performance engineers.

API Virtualization can be an invaluable tool in enabling rapid development across multiple teams. By creating virtual versions of production APIs for early development and testing, it's possible to develop, test and load test without being constrained by development and deployment schedules. Service Virtualization also allows simulating various API error scenarios, such as latent response times, error conditions or simulating a non-responsive API. Testing these factors concurrently can be hugely beneficial in minimizing costs and risks associated with reliance on third party APIs and reduce time-to-market by resolving API issues before development is finished.

Lorinda Brandon has worked in the high tech industry for various companies, including Mashery, RR Donnelley (News - Alert), EMC, Kayak Software, Exit41 and Intuit, among others. She specializes in rejuvenating product management, quality assurance and engineering teams by re-organizing and expanding staff and refining processes used within organizations.
