Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Inventor of the World Wide Web, to Speak at LeWeb'14 Paris


LeWeb'14 Paris today announces that Sir Tim Berners-Lee will address the LeWeb'14 Paris audience on December 10th.

"It is incredibly rare to be able to meet and listen to an individual who has changed the way that billions of people live and communicate. We are honored that Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Web is able to join us at LeWeb. As we close out the World Wide Web's 25th year, we are excited for Sir Tim to share with us his goals for the web of the next quarter century," comments Loic Le Meur, co-founder of LeWeb conference.

Sir Berners-Lee's biography

A graduate of Oxford University, Sir Tim invented the World Wide Web, an internet-based hypermedia initiative for global information sharing while at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory, in 1989. He wrote the first Web client and server in 1990.

Sir Tim is the 3Com (News - Alert) Founders Professor of Engineering at the Laboratory for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT (News - Alert)).

He is the Director of the World Wid Web Foundation, launched in 2009 to coordinate efforts to further the potential of the Web to benefit humanity and to defend the right to an affordable, universal and uncensored Web.



Tim is also the Director of World Wide Web Consortium, the standards setting body for the Web.

Sir Tim has promoted open government data globally and is Co-founder and President of the UK's Open Data Institute.


In 2004 he was knighted by H.M. Queen Elizabeth and in 2007 her Majesty awarded him the Order of Merit an honor held by only 12 living people. He is a member of the Royal Society and was named among Time Magazine's 100 most important people of the 20th Century.
