Hampton Health, Ltd. (hamptonhealthltd.com), a San Francisco-based private medical practice specializing in comprehensive Internal Medicine and Geriatric care with an emphasis on smooth care transitions into Post-Acute Assisted Living Facilities, is pleased to announce that company Founder and President Dr. John H. Fullerton has been appointed Certified Medical Director to AlmaVia of San Rafael, a leading senior assisted living community in Marin County. In addition to his directorship, Dr. Fullerton will establish an on-site medical practice open to AlmaVia residents as well as the local community.

AlmaVia of San Rafael (www.almaviaofsanrafael.org) is a retirement community developed, owned and operated by Elder Care Alliance (www.ElderCareAlliance.org) on the former site of Faith Lutheran Church. The new on-site medical practice will feature full-service, inter-disciplinary, team-oriented care and clinical support solutions, including physicians, physician assistants, phlebotomists, diabetic educators, Harvard-trained lifestyle/health medicine coaches, St. Mary's Medical Center geriatric residents as well as medical students and physician assistant/nurse practitioner student trainees from multiple university programs.

Dr. Fullerton brings more than 20 years of experience in the field of internal medicine and geriatric care, and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Addiction Medicine. In addition, he is a certified Hospice and Long-Term Care Medical Director and certified in Home Care.

Dr. Fullerton is the appointed Director of Geriatric Education for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and Key Faculty at Dignity Health/St. Mary's Medical Center (SMMC-SF, CA (News - Alert)). As clinical faculty at St. Mary's, UCSF, Yale, USC, Touro and other training programs, Dr. Fullerton more recently developed his private practice, Hampton Health, Ltd., to spread general medicine and geriatric care and training through affiliation agreements with many of these institutions. For more than 10 years he has worked with numerous skilled nursing facilities and assisted living sites throughout San Francisco and Marin County that have been recognized as geriatric training sites.



Prior to accepting his new appointment at AlmaVia of San Rafael, Dr. Fullerton spent 12 years as Medical Director for Aegis of Corte Madera during which time their website publicized, "Aegis of Corte Madera has the unique distinction in Northern California of offering an onsite geriatric medical practice with esteemed medical director, Dr. John H. Dr. Fullerton is President-Elect for the California Chapter of the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA). He also sits on the Board of Directors for the California Chapter of AMDA-CALTCM, where he proudly serves as the AMDA co-chair of Public Policy for the State of California as well as sits on the Public Policy Committee of AMDA nationally in Washington, D.C. He has more recently been appointed to the Board of Directors of the California Coalition for Culture Change in Sacramento. In Marin, he has been on the medical staff of Marin General Hospital for over a decade, has strong ties to Kentfield Rehabilitation Hospital, is co-chair of the PA/LTC committee of the Meritage Accountable Care Organization, and is a part-time hospice medical director for Hospice by the Bay in Larkspur.


Dr. Fullerton earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary and received his medical degree from the University of Miami. He pursued his medical internship and residency at California Pacific Medical Center, where he served as Chief Medical Resident in 1988. He received a Proclamation from the mayor of San Francisco in December 1994, naming a day in his honor for his work treating the underserved and uninsured, as well as for his work in the area of facility-based geriatric training.
