ORISE is accepting applications for the 2015 U.S. Department of Homeland Security Summer Internship Program


OAK RIDGE, Tenn. --(Business Wire)--

ORISE is currently accepting applications for the 2015 U.S. Department of Homeland Security HS-STEM Summer Internship Program, which is a 10-week summer internship program for students majoring in homeland security-related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines. The program is administered for DHS through ORISE, which is managed by ORAU for the U.S. Department of Energy.

The DHS HS-STEM Summer Internship Program, sponsored by the DHS Science and Technology Directorate, provides students who are U.S. citizens with quality research experiences at federal research facilities located across the country and allows students the opportunity to establish connections with DHS professionals. It is open to undergraduate and graduate students in a broad spectrum of STEM disciplines and DHS mission-relevant research areas. The ultimate goal of the program is to engage a diverse, educated and skilled pool of scientists and engineers in HS-STEM areas and to promote long-term relatinships between students, researchers and expertise at DHS research facilities.



Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and enrolled full-time as a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student at an accredited, 2-year or 4-year college or university in the U.S. are encouraged to apply.

The DHS HS-STEM Summer Internship Program offers the following benefits:


  • Direct exposure to and participation in research in DHS mission-relevant research areas
  • Hands-on research experience and identification of career goals and opportunities through hosting- site enrichment activities
  • Development of professional networks with leading scientists and laboratories
  • Stipends of $6,000 to $7000 (depending on academic status) plus limited travel reimbursement
