Western Dairy Association Board Member Welcomes FFA Students to Family Farm

CODY, Wyo. --(Business Wire)--

Hundreds of future farmers will experience dairy farming first hand when they visit a 64-year old dairy farm in Cody, Wyoming on Nov. 21. The visit is part of the third annual Wyoming Future Farmers of America (FFA) Fire and CPC (News - Alert) conference, which is expected to draw 500 people to Cody. Two hundred FFA students - most of them chapter officers from around the state - will attend the tour.

The tour, made possible through donations and investments from both the private and public sector ensures that FFA members understand the process and energy required to put food on the table. Seth George, himself an FFA member in high school, is the third generation to work his family dairy farm and is a board member of tour-donor Western Dairy Association (WDA (News - Alert)), a farmer-funded non-profit organization focused on increasing sales of and demand for dairy products and ingredients in Wyoming, Colorado and Montana. George welcomes the opportunity to educate young people about the realities of living and working on a dairy farm.

"As a dairy farmer, current board of Western Dairy Association, and former FFA member, I understand, first-hand, the importance of educating and encouraging the net generation of dairy farmers. I'm honored to provide a unique opportunity to this group of young people who represent our future," said Seth George, owner George Family Farm.

George's wife and three children will join him for the event, helping lead four breakout session on four separate topics: Beef Production, Agri-Business, Dairy Production and Milk Marketing.

"We're excited for our FFA students to experience everything the farm has to offer. This will be a true learning experience for them," said Jennifer Womack, Executive Director of the Wyoming FFA Foundation. "FFA places great emphasis on the special qualities and responsibilities it takes to be a leader. If you are going to be a future leader, you need to be well informed about the business. We so appreciate who have contributed time and funds to make the tour possible."

George's father and uncles expanded the family dairy to the 500 cows it is today. They also have a small cow/calf operation of 50 Angus cows and grow hay and corn. The George family has a history as leaders in the dairy and beef industry - Scott George has served as President of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association and Arley George is former Chairman of the Board for Western Dairy. Family members have also been involved with Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) for many years. They presently market their milk through DFA to Meadow Gold in Billings, Montana.
