CommonWell Health Alliance and its Members Move Forward with Nationwide Expansion of Services

VIENNA, Va. --(Business Wire)--

CommonWell Health Alliance (the "Alliance") today announced it has entered a new phase of its effort to advance health information technology (HIT) interoperability, extending the availability of its services and exploring additional opportunities for nationwide expansion. Members will now have the option to enter into service agreements with CommonWell that open the door for a broader range of providers and the people they serve to benefit from CommonWell Services.

"CommonWell is changing the way our industry thinks about interoperability," said Jeremy Delinsky, Chairman of the Board - CommonWell Health Alliance, and CTO - athenahealth. "Today, we are thrilled to announce a nationwide network to manage clinical information, promote greater access to health data and improve care across the continuum. By making these services broadly available, CommonWell is empowering its members and their clients to facilitate better care coordination across disparate EHRs and care settings."

A key milestone enabling CommonWell to move forward beyond its initial service launch was the recent formalization of its relationship with service provider RelayHealth, which serves as the technology foundation by which CommonWell services are leveraged.

Earlier this year, CommonWell's services were initially launched in four geographies at more than 10 provider sites. During the nine month period, more than 20,000 people actively chose to connect their records via CommonWell through their participating providers.

As of today, athenahealth, Cerner (News - Alert), CPSI, Greenway and McKesson have signed formal agreements with CommonWell to offer their clients these services across the nation. Already, these member companies have begun to deploy CommonWell services at provider sites in additional geographies, including Florida, Massachusetts and Washington.

Provider organizations of these member companies who participated in the initial launch also are continuing to leverage the CommonWell service within their practices.

"By using CommonWell's services, our providers can see a patient's health data using one interface rather than multiple point to point interfaces," said Lee Powe, CIO of Hugh Chatham, a CPSI and Greenway client. "In addition to improving the workflow, it also means a significant return on investment for the whole system."

CommonWell is well positioned to continue to expand nationwide with their now 14 active members with diverse experience across the care continuum, including the recent additions of Aprima, CareCloud and OBIX by Clinical Computer Systems, Inc. Membership now represents acute and ambulatory care EHR suppliers, as well as laboratory, retail pharmacy, perinatal care and long-term care health IT systems.

The Alliance is open to all organizations that are committed to making patient's data available to providers regardless of where care occurs.
