Total Communicator Solutions of San Diego to Launch World's First Smart Destination Mobile Platform for Tourist Destinations at Event in Tenerife on Nov. 18

Total Communicator Solutions, Inc., a leader in proximity mobile marketing systems and communication, will introduce the world's first Smart Destination mobile platform for tourist destinations at Nov. 18 events in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Atos Spain is Partner in the project.

Erik Bjontegard, president of Total Communicator Solutions, said the launch in Tenerife will demonstrate how the platform can help tourist destinations enhance the visitor experience from the moment they arrive in the area and connect with local resources on their mobile device. Integrated custom applications will provide highly relevant information based on the users' location, outdoors as well as indoors. Features such as maps, directions, special offers, hotel information, shopping and dining information, transportation options, and daily tips about local attractions will appear when useful and relevant.

"The Smart Destination platform will make experiencing any new destination easy and worry-free," said Bjontegard. "Visitors will no longer need to consult a dozen maps and guidebooks, search on the Internet for help or be confused standing at a strange intersection in a foreign country. The app knows where you are and can provide relevant information instantaneously, plus deliver customized offers for shopping and dining based on user preferences and their specific location in the community."

The multiple Tenerife demonstration installations will integrate the big data analytical capabilities of Atos with Total Communicator Solutions' Spark Compass (News - Alert) hyper-location communications platform and Gimbal encrypted proximity iBeacons. Atos is an international information technology services company with 2013 pro forma annual revenue of €10 billion and 86,000 employees in 66 countries. It has been a leader in introducing new technologies in the European Union and elsewhere to advance the development of Smart Cities.

In addition to helping visitors, the platform provides a powerful source of data for tourism agencies, cities, retail organizations and others to analyze for continuous improvements to their communications and marketing programs.

Bjontegard said Tenerife was chosen for the demonstration because of its popularity as a tourist destination, its excellent technlogy infrastructure and the Atos presence there. More than 6 million tourists visit Tenerife each year. It has two international airports, two international ports with a third under construction and is home to Teide HPC, in Granadilla de Abona, the second most powerful super computer in Spain. The computer serves the European scientific community, technology start-ups on the island, education and growing companies that need extra computing power.

Total Communicator Solutions has been collaborating with Atos on smart city and smart destination projects in Spain. The two companies are working together to launch the Smart Destination demonstration projects and installations in Tenerife, expand throughout the island and then launch in other cities in Spain, the European Union and the nearby North African continent.

The day-long launch on Nov. 18 will begin at 11:00 with an official welcome ceremony at the Tourism Innovation Factory (FIT) and CDTCA facility in Adeje, a major city on the Island of Tenerife. Confirmed guests include Carlos Enrique Alonso Rodríguez, president of the Calbido de Tenerife; Miguel Rodriguez Fraga, mayor of Adeje; and Jorge Marichal, president of Ashotel, the largest hotel organization on the Canary Islands.

José Manuel Rodriguez Macias, director of Atos Tenerife, will highlight how the integration of the platform with Atos systems and big data management and analysis capabilities may benefit both visitors and the tourism industry. Joining from Total Communicator Solutions will be Francis Ortiz, executive director of Spark Compass Spain; Brian Spracklen, head of operations; and Jorge Arroyo, head of production and Latin America. The guest list includes representatives from local port authorities, transportation agencies, chambers of commerce, convention centers and tourism agencies.

Additional live demonstration platforms featuring Gimbal's iBeacons will be configured and installed in two hotels; a city hotel in Santa Cruz and a resort in Arona, two institutional buildings and a retail shopping mall; and Atos headquarters on Tenerife.
