Twin Cities Business Names Mayo Clinic President and CEO Dr. John Noseworthy 2014 Person of the Year

Minnesota's largest business publication announced today that it has chosen Mayo Clinic President and CEO Dr. John Noseworthy as 2014's Person of the Year.

"For this award, we considered several individuals' achievements in recent years. More than any other nominee, Dr. Noseworthy stood out for exceptional leadership that is strengthening our state's economy, reputation and culture," said Twin (News - Alert) Cities Business Editor in Chief Dale Kurschner. "Perhaps the most significant reason for his selection has to do with how well he is changing the status quo within a 150-year-old institution that, well, hasn't really embraced this level of gumption in previous generations."

Twin Cities Business' December issue profiles Noseworthy and his achievements thus far, which include:

• Spearheading what is expected to become the state's largest-ever development project: the $6 billion transformation of downtown Rochester into a "Destination Medical Center."
Setting a course for Mayo to serve 200 million people a year by 2020 (up from 63 million today).
• Leading Mayo's entire workforce through a "working differently culture," complete with 400 quality-improvement projects.
• Improving Mayo's financial results: Since he took the helm in 2009, Mayo Clinic's annual income has risen 84 percent to $612 million, while revenue increased 62 percent to $9.4 billion.
