Seattle Welcomes First 'Out of the Closet' Thrift Store, New AHF Pharmacy on Capitol HillSEATTLE --(Business Wire)-- AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest provider of HIV/AIDS care in the United States, is hosting a grand opening event on Saturday, November 15 from 10 am - 2pm at 1016 E. Pike St. in Seattle to mark the opening of the city's first AHF Out of the Closet thrift store and relocation of the AHF Pharmacy to this Capitol Hill site from its previous nearby location. AHF's thrift stores are not only home to a wealth of unique finds, but also support global AIDS care by cycling 96 cents of every dollar earned into supporting AHF clinics serving nearly 356,000 people around the world. Therefore, anyone who donates to or purchases from an Out of the Closet Thrift Store is directly helping AHF fight to end the global HIV/AIDS epidemic.
"Saturday will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with us in our Capitol Hill neighborhood, meet the entire AHF Seattle team and learn more about our free HIV testing services as well as about AHF Pharmacy and Out of the Closet," said Adam Ouderkirk, Senior Director of Program & Business Development for AHF. "And the second floor space just above the new store and pharmacy will also soon be home to an AHF Healthcare Center offering specialized, client-centered HIV/AIDS care beginning early next year." "We're proud to partner with Gay City and provide an additional access point to testing and prevention services for community members," said Ses Soltani, Associate Director of Public Health-Testing Programs for AIDS Healthcare Foundation. "Gay City has a rich history of advocacy in King County and remains solid proponent of wellness in the Capitol Hill neighborhood." "Through this new Pike Street AHF Pharmacy, we will be able to provide outstanding service tailored to the specific needs of HIV/AIDS patients for their pharmacy services as well as to deliver top notch service to our general pharmacy clients," said Scott Carruthers, PharmD, Chief Pharmacy Officer for AHF. "And as a reminder: At AHF Pharmacy, your prescription dollars make a difference-96¢ of every dollar of revenue generated goes into HIV/AIDS programs and services in the U.S. and around the globe."
Stars of "Mimosas With Mama", the award winning drag brunch show (regularly performing at the Unicorn, just up the street), will attend and perform at the Grand Opening event on Saturday. Star/Host Mama T and her co-stars, Isabella Extynn St. James and Felix Manchild will appear. "Mimosas with Mama" just won "KING 5 TV's Evening Magazine Best of Western Washington" contest for Best Theatre Group on Monday. The new Out of the Closet Thrift Store will also be a new home to Seattle's AHF Pharmacy, a full-service pharmacy housed inside the store where 96 cents of every dollar also goes toward global HIV/AIDS care. The pharmacy previously operated in a smaller space on Union St. on Capitol Hill.
