Cystinosis Benefit Golf Tournament Raises a Record $362,000

The seventh annual Natalie's Wish Fore a Cure Golf Tournament raised a tournament-record $362,585 to cure cystinosis through generous donations and sponsorships by more than 200 companies and individuals. Cystinosis is a rare, metabolic disease that afflicts about 500 children and young adults in the United States and 2,000 worldwide.

"The exceptional support and generosity of our friends and community has enabled the Cystinosis Research Foundation to make significant advances in the treatment of cystinosis. CRF-funded researchers at institutions around the globe are making important breakthroughs toward the cure. We are honored to be part of the progress to help Natalie's Wish become a reality by contributing to cystinosis research," said Vince Ciavarella, the CRF's tournament chairman.

Since 2007, the Fore a Cure golf tournaments have contributed $2,233,585 to cystinosis research and the quest for a cure. This year's tournament on Oct. 27 returned to Santa Ana Country Club. Proceeds to the CRF are committed entirely for research aimed at fiding a cure and improved treatments for the disease.

Leading the event's list of supporters was Oltmans Construction, returning for a third year as Presenting Sponsor.

"The tournament's reputation as 'the best in Orange (News - Alert) County' was yet again confirmed as golf sponsorships were sold out several months before the event, and because of our dynamic golf committee all of the underwriting opportunities were completely sold by tournament day."

Cystinosis is a metabolic disease that slowly destroys every organ in the body, including the liver, kidneys, eyes, muscles, thyroid and brain. There is a medicine that prolongs children's lives, but there is no cure.

The CRF of Irvine, California, is the leading private source for bench and clinical investigations of cystinosis research worldwide. All the foundation's administrative costs are privately underwritten.

The foundation was formed in 2003 by Nancy and Geoffrey Stack, a managing director of the SARES•REGIS Group, an Irvine real estate company. Their daughter Natalie, 23, was diagnosed with cystinosis at infancy.

The CRF has raised $25.8 million and funded 122 cystinosis research studies and fellowships in 12 countries and is the largest fund provider of cystinosis research in the world.
