Fujitsu and Advanced Communications Technology Team to Bring 100G to Wyoming

RICHARDSON, Texas --(Business Wire)--

Fujitsu, a leading provider of business, information technology, and communications solutions, announced today that Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. is collaborating with Advanced Communications Technology (ACT) to deliver 100G broadband service in the State of Wyoming. ACT's new 100G capabilities support Wyoming Governor Matt Mead's Unified Network vision of providing broadband access to all residents and businesses across the state.

With access to a 100G network, school teachers and students can communicate via video with their peers across the country and around the world; interactive learning experiences that once were out of reach become part of the regular curriculum. For state agencies, broadband means being able to assist citizens by making more information readily available online and expanding eGovernment services. Wyoming's Unified Network also creates a trunk off of which private providers may build 100G networks for business creation or relocation, generating high skilled job opportunities. Already the promise of 100G bandwidth is furthering the state's efforts to attract data center developments, which the governor's office sees as a natural fit for Wyoming's economy, geography and climate.

ACT chose Fujitsu's (News - Alert) award-winning FLASHWAVE 9500, 88 channel Packet Optical Networking Platform (Packet ONP) to expand the state network's existing backbone capacity to 100G. ACT selected the FLASHWAVE 9500 for its ability to converge Etherne, SONET and wavelength services support onto a single network platform, and to take advantage of ACT's previous investment in Fujitsu network solutions by enabling 100G capacity upgrades across its entire embedded base of Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 7500 Metro/Regional Multiservice ROADMs, resulting in a statewide 100G backbone network.

ACT will perform all installation, testing and turn-up of the network. The company's track-record of successfully networking schools and businesses throughout the region is well known. ACT has earned a reputation for implementing advanced technologies on-time and within budget.

"Helping to make the State's Unified Network a reality is exciting for all of us," said Aaron Sopko, General Manager for Advanced Communications Technologies. "ACT is proud to be a part of Governor Mead's vision of ensuring broadband access to schools, businesses and healthcare providers across the state."

"State leadership, beginning with Governor Mead, sees broadband as a path to an enhanced quality-of-life, compelling educational experiences and economic growth in Wyoming," said Steve Pelosi, Vice President and Head of Optical Products, Fujitsu Network Communications (News - Alert). "Working in collaboration with ACT, we're delivering solutions that will play a vital role in achieving the state's goals. Furthermore, the Fujitsu technology offers a smooth migration to even higher bandwidths and new architectures, benefitting residents and increasing the state's return on investment."
