Vital Connect's HealthPatch® MD Used in Remote Patient Monitoring System in Development with Philips and Radboud University Medical Center

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Vital Connect's FDA-cleared wearable biosensor, HealthPatch® MD, was used in a prototype expansion of Philips' (News - Alert) FDA-cleared remote monitoring system. This prototype incorporates Vital Connect's biosensor in an application developed by Philips and Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center to manage patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

According to the World Health Organization, COPD is the third leading cause of death in the US. COPD patients will wear the HealthPatch® MD which captures and transmits continuous health data from patients to Philips' eCareCompanion application on their mobile devices. The data is then transmitted wirelessly to Philips' secure, cloud-based HealthSuite Digital Platform, where clinicians can access real-time and historical data using Philips' eCareCoordinator application to gain a more comprehensive view of a patient's condition when he/she has returned home after receiving hospital care.

"Continuously monitoring the health conditions of a chronically ill patient battling COPD is just one of the many ways HealthPatch® MD can help revolutionize the medical field," said Vital Connect CEO Nersi Nazari. "Philips and Radboud University medical center have created a brilliant system that takes advantage of the accuracy and wearability of HeathPatch® MD to remotely monitor patients. Doctors can be more informed about their patients' conditions in real time, and can be notified of deterioration of vital signs sooner. Systems like these could have the potential to improve quality of life for the chronically ill and potentially even save lives."

The HealthPatch® MD, which weighs only 10g and is 6mm (0.24") thick, is worn on the chest. Its light and thin form factor is comfortable for patients and less obtrusive than conventional monitoring equipment. Cutting-edge sensors and electronics, along with advanced algorithm technologies in HealthPatch® MD provide continuous, clinical-grade measurements of ECG, respiratory rate, heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, physical activity, posture, and fall detection. The HealthPatch® MD is cleared by the FDA, has received regulatory approval (CE Mark) for distribution in EU, and is licensed and registered by Health Canada for distribution in Canada. For more information on the HealthPatch® MD and to explore ways this new technology can be incorporated into various healthcare settings to transform the landscape of treatment delivery, visit: www.vitalconnect.com.

Note: The HealthPatch® MD is referred to as the VitalConnect Platform in the FDA 510(k) and Technical File.
