The SEED Partners Launch New Biotech to Revolutionize Research and Diagnostics

MINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)--

Minneapolis-based entrepreneurial partnership The SEED Partners has announced the formation of Intracellular Technologies, LLC, to develop and commercialize an innovative new tech platform capable of identifying active caspases, the primary bio-marker of apoptosis, in living cells.

Intracellular Technologies will set a new standard in the life sciences marketplace, creating and commercializing first-to-market products and first-generation research tools to study important processes such as inflammation and apoptosis, a biochemical mechanism crucial to the progression, treatment efficacy and diagnosis of numerous debilitating and life-threatening diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer's, macular degeneration and ischemia.

Intracellular Technologies products will also be used to facilitate drug discovery and to determine safety issues, such as toxicity, during drug discovery. The company will be committed to maintaining an ongoing pipeline of leading-edge products for the study of biochemical processes and events that affect human health.

"Apoptosis is just the beginning," says SEED Managing Partner Jeff Julkowski. "This biomarker technology is a powerful analytical tool with the potential to transform the diagnosis and treatment of a full range of human disease states. Revitalizing a technology platform from decades ago to create a one-of-a-kind intellectual property that will truly change lives for the better the innovative idea behind SEED."

While the Intracellular Technologies leadership team is still being assembled, SEED research scientists Gary L. Johnson and David J. Phelps, PhD, who originated and patented and bolstered the in-vivo platform, will continue to strengthen the IP with additional development and patents.

Gary L. Johnson's professional experience includes laboratory work at 3M (News - Alert) and the University of Minnesota's Immunobiology Research Center. David J. Phelps' strategic planning, inventive mindset and development leadership have been key to the success of life science, biotechnology and pharmaceutical advances since the mid-1970s. He began his commercial career as a senior research scientist for Bristol-Myers Pharmaceutical and has worked for Fisher Scientific, Molecular Probes, Intergen Company and Promega.

"SEED Research and Development's scientific team will be vital to everything we pursue as we look to scale Intracellular Technologies," says SEED President Frank Santiago. "SEED's in-house modular research organization and pilot manufacturing lab are modeled on the U.S. Military's DARPA program. We're networking with world-class scientific institutions and world-renowned scientists. And our own researchers have proven themselves again and again. We're entirely confident about what we're establishing. Disruptive, breakthrough innovations create their own market opportunities."

ABOUT INTRACELLULAR TECHNOLOGIES
Intracellular Technologies will offer the life science market's first intracellular tracers - an apoptotic biomarker technology platform presently moving from research to human clinical markets. Products will include custom-engineered tracers, dyes and kitted systems.
