du launches Be Safe awareness initiative [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]


(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dubai-based carrier du has launched a new awareness initiative under the umberella of its Be Safe Campaign in a bid to create more awareness about online security.

The initiative, which will cover 12 topics in total, will be launched on du's website and through its social media channels targeting children, parents, educational institutions and corporations to teach them various topics related to internet safety.



Marwan Abdulla Bin Dalmook, senior vice president, technology security and risk management, operations, du, said: "Eight out of 10 people in the UAE use the internet, which puts a phenomenal percentage of the population at risk from online security issues, such as phishing and more. As a leading provider of internet services in the UAE, we feel it is our responsibility to not only educate our customers on how to stay safe online, but to create a comprehensive project that will provide anyone who wants to know more with information about being safe on the internet." According to "The Continued Rise of DDoS Attacks," study conducted by Symantec, the UAE appears at number 45 in the global top 50 ranking of countries that have witnessed the highest volume of "originating DDoS traffic".

The first topic the campaign, which will be introduced this month is Social Media Safety and Security, an awareness initiative to teach users how to stay safe, protect their information, avoid online fraud and identity theft, and to know their rights online.
