Time Warner Cable quoted man $20K for broadband internet [EMBIN (Emerging Markets Business Information News]

(EMBIN (Emerging Markets Business Information News) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jess Walser, from central New York, says Time Warner Cable wanted to charge him $20,000 for access to broadband internet.

Walser, who lives in Pompey, a rural town that is located 20 miles outside of Syracuse, has decided to speak out about being quoted more than $20,000 to have cable installed.

Walser, and possibly his neighbors, would have to pay for hardware, aerial design, splicing, electronics, coaxial construction and a make ready fee of $5,670. This is because there are not enough homes in the community.

The final estimate that TWC gave him in 2012 was $20,330, as well as whatever monthly fee he would pay to get the internet.

According to Daily Mail, when Walser first moved into his home 10 years ago, copper wire phone service only cost him around a few hundred dollars.

Walser currently has a Verizon land-line, but getting Verizon Fios isn't an option. Verizon's internet delivery equipment and there isn't been a fiber-based Fios where he lives, according to Ars Techina.

Walser said he has contacted his state senators, his state legislator, US senators and the FCC. Walser is still fighting for wire-line broadband access that doesn't cost more than $20k.
