Equinix to Build $43m Tokyo Data Center [New Vision (Uganda)]


(New Vision (Uganda) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Equinix is building its sixth data center in Japan, TY5, which will hold 725 cabinets and be up and running in 2016.

The 54,663 square foot center aims to meet demand from finance firms and cloud providers and interconnection services based in Tokyo. It's being built close to Equinix's existing TY3 facility near Tokyo's financial district. The first phase will have 350 cabinets and the second will have 375.



Rising demand The data center market in Japan will reach US$14.2 billion by 2016, Forrester Research predicts. Equinix will implement its International Business Exchange (IBX), which already connectos some sixty financial services companies, so customers can handle transactions with each other quickly within the data center - and also across network links provided by more than 1,000 domestic and international network providers including Softbank, PCCW Global, BT and AT&T.

The new site represents a vote of confidence in Japan's economic recovery. the country has GDP growth of around opne percent, but a huge national debt.
