Acer posts sequential sales growth in Q3, profits improve [New Vision (Uganda)]

(New Vision (Uganda) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Acer reported third-quarter revenue of TWD 85.69 billion (USD 2.82 billion), down 7 percent year-on-year but up 5.3 percent from the previous quarter. This was its third straight profitable quarter, with operating income of TWD 1.10 billion, net profit of TWD 651 million and EPS at TWD 0.24. Operating profit improved by TWD 3.67 billion, resulting in a margin of 1.3 percent. Acer noted that IDC data shows it grew PC shipments 13.3 percent year-on-year in Q3, compared to a market decline of 0.5 percent. The improvement in Q3 was the result of a good product mix, new product announcements and back-to-school demand, the company said. In Q4 Acer expects the seasonal promotions to support continued steady growth.

The company also announced the appointment of Jerry Kao as president of the Notebook Business Group, effective 01 December. Kao will be promoted from his current position of general manager in the business group, which he co-heads with Jackson Lin, president. Kao joined Acer in 1995 as an engineer. Lin, who also serves as chief technology officer and president of Acer's Design Center, will be released from his role at the business group in order to focus on research and development.
