Zain Bahrain opts for Ericsson HD voice [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]

(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Zain Bahrain has chosen Ericsson to launch HD voice services over its existing 3G radio and core network in Bahrain.  According to a statement from Ericsson, this will dramatically improve voice call quality on Zain's network, making conference calls and speech-to-text applications more viable.  "We always strive to bring the best customer experience to our subscribers in the Kingdom," said Mohammed Zainalabedin, general manager of Zain Bahrain.  "Our customers demand high-quality services and with Ericsson's HD voice solution we further differentiate our services within the Bahraini market."  According to Ericsson, almost 70% of global mobile revenues are still linked to voice calls, meaning that HD voice services provide an area of differentiation for mobile operators.  Ericsson is Zain Bahrain's sole supplier for its core and radio network. The vendor's president of the Middle East region, Rafiah Ibrahim, said that this would facilitate a smooth upgrade to HD voice. Once completed, she said that the upgrade would be noticeably beneficial to Zain's customers.  Ericsson's HD voice solution is a standardised technology that has already been deployed by a number of operators across the Middle East. The solution is based on AMR (adaptive multi-rate) wideband, and improves speech quality in mobile phone calls - whether that be over GSM, WCDMA, CDMA or LTE networks.  (c) 2014 ITP Business Publishing Ltd.
