KPN launches first cloud-based PTT service in Europe [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dutch telecoms giant KPN has launched Europe's first cloud-based push-to-talk (PTT) service, using Kodiak Networks' next-generation PTT technology. The service allows cost-efficient instant group communication over existing 3G and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, with KPN's vice president saying: 'Within a second, you can start a voice connection with a person or a whole group of people, anywhere in the Netherlands.' The cloud-based service has been operational in the USA since 2012, allowing users to communicate to large audiences at the push of a button, but has only recently been made available in Europe. KPN claims PTT 'contributes to increased efficiency and reduced risks in the workplace, particularly for employees who work alone in the field.' Swedish technology provider Ericsson is managing the service, maintaining quality assurance and day-to-day operations.
