Ericsson announces HD voice partnership with Zain Bahrain [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Zain Bahrain, the country's second largest mobile service provider with 32.3% of the mobile subscriber share at end-June 2014, has chosen Swedish vendor Ericsson to deliver High Definition (HD) voice services over its 3G network. Ericsson is already the sole supplier of Zain's radio and core network and says its adaptive multi-rate (AMR) wideband-based HD voice services will allow subscribers to 'enjoy crystal-clear voice quality … conduct more effective conference calls [and] enjoy better speech-to-text applications,' also claiming that 'close to 70% of global mobile revenues [are] still linked to voice calls.' General manager of the Zain Group subsidiary, Mohammad Zainalabedin, commented: '…with Ericsson's HD voice solution we further differentiate our services within the Bahraini market.' Ericsson's HD voice solution is already developed and operational in other markets, although the company has yet to provide a date when the services will be launched in Bahrain.
