A.M.BestTV: Investors Interest Are Driving The Demand for Catastrophe Bonds

OLDWICK, N.J. --(Business Wire)--

In this A.M.BestTV episode, Henning Ludolphs, managing director of retrocessions and capital markets at Hannover Re, talks about how catastrophe (cat) bonds have historically performed and the current state of the market. Ludolphs also participated in a panel discussion on reinsurance at the recent A.M. Best "Insurance Marketing Briefing - Europe."

"They are really doing quite well as the cat bond market has had fairly low volatility," said Ludolphs. "When the financial crisis took place, all financial markets were down, but the cat bond market kept quite stable."

Ludolphs also discusses where the market could be headed.

"There's a lot of money coming into this market, and I'm sure if more cat bonds were issued they would be purchased," said Ludolphs. "Additionally, for about one and half years cat bonds were more expensive than traditional reinsurance; however, this has reversed, since today cat bonds are cheaper than reinsurance when they are compared like to like."
