Patton Highlights Ethernet Extenders for Traffic-Control at Secured Cities

BALTIMORE --(Business Wire)--

This week at Secured Cities in the Baltimore Convention Center, Patton Electronics-US-manufacturer of award-winning CopperLink™ Ethernet Extenders, BODI rS™ high-availability fixed & mobile routers, and SmartNode™ VoIP solutions-is highlighting an IP-networked traffic-control solution the company devised for the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA).

Designed to keep traffic moving at an optimized rate, the system employs Paton's Multi-Drop-Ethernet (MDE) technology to interconnect traffic signals, cameras, sensors, and controllers over the SHA's centrally-managed IP network.

In order to meet Department of Homeland Security requirements, the State of Maryland had to convert their legacy closed-loop traffic-control system to a modernized, centrally-managed IP network.

Patton's (News - Alert) Ethernet-extension technology enabled the SHA to leverage Maryland's existing copper-twisted-pair cabling infrastructure, which has been installed and working for years.

By selecting and installing Patton's CopperLink Ethernet Extenders, the SHA was able to avoid the untenable cost of installing of fiber-optic cable.

Running new cable would require road closings, demolitions, trenching, and re-construction-causing unacceptable project delays.

In order to stimulate the state's local economy and support job creation within Maryland, the SHA sought an in-state manufacturer for the traffic-control project.

Patton, whose world headquarters and manufacturing facility is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, was a perfect fit for the in-state requirement.

Maryland's traffic-control project employs Patton's CopperLink™ CL1314MDE Multi-Drop Ethernet and CL1314R ruggedized long-range Ethernet extenders.

Featuring an integrated 4-port Ethernet switch, the CL1314MDE can interconnect IP-enabled cameras, controllers and sensors with an IP router, installed in the equipment cabinet at each central-intersection.

The entire system can be managed remotely from SHA headquarters over the administration's IP network.

Offering network infrastructure solutions for transit, healthcare and campus security, Patton is showcasing at Secured Cities 2014 in booth 502.

In related news, last week Patton announced general availability for the compact, US-manufactured CopperLink™ CL1212 168-Mbps copper Ethernet Extender that leverages common copper cabling to transport such bandwidth-intensive applications as large file transfers, data backhaul, IP telephony, streaming music and IP video.
