Singapore firm maps Nigeria's IP future

(CAJ News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A global leader in internet protocol (IP) networking innovation has deployed its network session and application manager, Orchid One, for Interconnect Clearinghouse Nigeria (ICN) to support the delivery of the country's IP future.

The Network Session and Application Manager, an offering by Singaporeheadquartered Cataleya, combines the functionality of a Session Border Controller with increased control, intelligence and realtime automation. ICN has started migrating its Timedivision multiplexing (TDM) interconnects to IP and will use Orchid One to serve local and regional mobile operators and fixedline service providers with intelligent IP connectivity.

TDM is a method of transmitting and receiving independent signals over a common signal path by means of synchronized switches The Orchid One Network Session and Application Manager is specifically designed to enable the delivery of IP communications services and highperformance applications.

It offers service providers full endtoend quality of service and experience with visibility from the transport to applications layers, which is critical for the delivery of IPXenabled infrastructure. Service providers using Orchid One can utilise this visibility to maintain or enhance network performance in realtime.

"With every trial and deployment, Cataleya is proving that it is not just another SBC product. It is catering to the needs of a range of service providers that have a common goal of delivering the highest possible quality of service and experience," said Jay Jayasimha, Chief Technology Innovation Officer at Cataleya.

He said the scalability of Orchid One is ideal for a rapidly growing market like Nigeria and we are excited to help ICN deliver IPXenabled networking in Africa's largest telecoms market." After a successful trial period beginning in May, Orchid One is fully operational within ICN's network infrastructure. Orchid One was easily integrated into ICN's billing system thanks to its builtin call detail record (CDR) reformatting module and is already managing interconnect traffic for some of Nigeria's largest mobile operators.

The partitioning capabilities of Orchid One will allow ICN to resell hosted services to Nigeria's tier 2 service providers. ICN meanwhile intends to develop its network across Africa beginning with West Africa, South, East and then North Africa.
