Top 5 Best Smartphones of 2014 (Part 1) [Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia)]

(Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) 2014 has been a rather great year for smartphones. These devices are getting bigger and bigger, with more features added to complement the increase in size as well. Here is our favourites this year: Google Nexus 5 The Nexus 5's time is almost up, with the Nexus 6 waiting in line to take its place. Android 4.4 and the fair price tag are very attractive reasons to have it, on top of the powerful CPU, quality screen and even the rubberised outer shell. It'll have an update to Android Lollipop so you can be one of the first to get the new, flatter OS. The LG G2 is about the same price though, with a better camera, battery life and a whole range of features.

Samsung Galaxy S5 There was much hype over the new Galaxy, what with the fast core, strong benchmark results and 5.1-inch screen. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU is still one of the best CPUs for any smartphone and the Galaxy S5 itself has one of the best battery lives beating out even the One M8. The Note 4 is better now, if you can handle its size. There's less "innovation" in the air gestures, which are still there but less focused on. Apart from that, there's a better camera, a fingerprint scanner and a heart rate monitor.

Sony Xperia Z3 The Xperia Z3 got released a little too soon after the Z2 without many upgrades to it, but it's still a nice phone. The design's slimmer and comes with a really bright screen, packaged with plenty of the regular Sony offerings like Bravia tech and better sound output. The camera has sadly been left untouched with inconsistencies yet to be addressed, and still can't match with other offerings in the market.

OnePlus One Most would probably be unaware of this phone, but those in the know would know why it's in this list. It packs the power, specs and functions of many of its competitors, along with easy customization at almost half the price of similar, more established phones. It's missing a microSD slot and removable battery, as well as a subpar camera, but for those wanting a powerhouse, this works well enough.

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Less power and a lower res screen than its bigger model would make this a surprise entry into this list. However, it still has most of the power available in its bigger counterpart, with all the handy features of Remote Play, 20.7MP camera, clear IPS LCD screen in an easier to handle package and a cheaper price too.
