(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Goa Science Centre will organize a creative science workshop between 11am and 3pm from October 27 to November 5. The workshop will be conducted in three different disciplines; creative science, computer, multimedia, and electronics. Those who opt for creative science, will be trained in preparing functional, scientific projects or kits based on the basic principles of science. Under the computer and multimedia programme, students will learn fundamentals of computers, MS office, e-mail and internet, exposure to multimedia hardware and software. The electronics module will have give students the opportunity to learn the basics of electronics, soldering practice and making of electronics projects. Besides training workshops, the highlights of this programme are live science demonstrations, exciting quizzes, a soap bubble workshop and much more. Students of different age groups can participate in different disciplines. Nominal fees will be charged for the course material. German language course: Chowgule College will commence its German language course from October 27 at the college campus. The course will be conducted by German national Holger Schäfer, an expert in the subject. The course will be conducted three days a week. The class timings will be fixed depending on the convenience of the students as well as the teacher. The course is offered in cooperation with Goethe Institute/Max Mueller Bhavan, the official German Cultural and Language Institute which organizes German classes in 159 institutes in over 90 countries worldwide. At the end of the course, students will be able to pass the internationally recognized A1 exam.

This course offers students the chance to enhance their career opportunities, and is also recommended for those interested in world culture or who wish to travel.


Science workshop: In order to encourage independent thinking and instill a scientific mindset among students, Siddharth Seva Pratishthan will organize a science workshop, 'Science through experiments' for students of Class VIII to X from October 31 to November 1. The workshop will be held between 2pm and 5.30pm at Sharada hall, BDS charitable trust, second floor, above Axis Bank, Panaji. Students will have to pay a fee of 200 only. Adivasi Yojana: The department of tribal welfare will launch Adivasi Vikas on October 28 and also felicitate meritous scheduled tribe students, at conference hall, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. Administrative approval will be given to 113 works in village panchayats amounting to 7.09 crores. Minister for tribal welfare Ramesh Tawadkar will be the chief guest at the function while Sanvordem MLA and chairperson, Goa state scheduled tribes and development corporation Ganesh Gaonkar will preside over the function. Chairperson, Goa commission for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes Anant Shirvoikar, will also be present.

Classical music concert: The vice consulate of Italy for Goa, the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, Circolo Italiano Goa and the directorate of art and culture will present a harp and voice duo concert by Maestro Enrico Euron and Anne-Gaelle Cuif on October 28 at 6pm at the Krishnadas Shama Goa state library, Patto, Panaji. There will be a meeting with the artistes the next day at the same venue and time.

Talk on 'Esperanto: A talk on 'Esperanto, the universal language and the internet' will be held at the International Centre Goa. Bijon Saha, former director, ETDC-Goa, will deliver the presentation at 4pm on November 1.

NIO's internship programme: National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, will organize a five-day science internship programme called INSPIRE for Class XI students from October 27 to 31. The selected students will get a chance to interact with a select group of scientists and academicians. Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Bhatnagar awardees and fellows will be mentoring the selected students. The event will be inaugurated by minister for forests, environment and museum, Alina Saldanha on October 27 at 10am.

Graphic design and animation classes: Talon Animation will conduct vacation workshops to introduce youth to Animation and Robotics. The institute will conduct two workshops; one in graphic design, 2D and 3D animation and the second as an introduction to robotics. The workshops will be held from October 27 to November 1 and from November 3 to November 8. There will be two batches per day. The first batch will be begin at 9.30am and end at 1.30pm. Goa Chitra's new museum: Goa Chitra will inaugurate their new museum - Goa Chakra and the 'Kachchh Ji Chaap' exhibition on the eve of Goa Chitra's fifth anniversary celebration at 4pm on November 1. The museum will pay tribute to the rich heritage of the wheel. Goa Chitra will also launch the first of a series of exhibitions that supplement India's rich crafts and traditions which are being revived. The Kachchh Ji Chaap exhibition is organized by the print artisans of Kachchh and Khamir that narrates 500 Years of block and batik print as it unfolded on the banks of the Indus to its modern multi-faceted practice. The products of Khamir that include ethnic products made by the world famous Kachchh artisan will be on sale. There will be a live performance of folk music by Khanubha Nanubha Jadeja from Kachchh, Gujarat, and an informal organization of 305 musicians representing 38 different musical forms. Chief minister Manohar Parrikar will inaugurate the museum.

Art history course: Apurva Kulkarni will conduct the eighth session of The meaning of modern art, an art history course on post modernism I: From pop to contemporary art on October 30 at 6pm at Gallery Gitanjali, Fontainhas. The session will explore the art of major pop and conceptual artists including Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys and Christo. Balotsava: The directorate of art and culture in collaboration with West Zone Cultural Centre, Udaipur, willorganize a five-day children's festival "Balotsav" at Government Higher Secondary School, Sanguem, from October 27 to 31 for local school children in the age group of 10 to 16 years. The inaugural function will be held at 10am on October 27. The children will be trained by experts from Rajasthan and Goa in traditional art forms such as bandhani, puppet making, bead work, theatre and national integration songs.

Classical dance festival at KA: Kala Academy Goa in collaboration with India International Rural Cultural Centre, New Delhi, will organize a two-day classical dance festival called Pravah at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir, Kala Academy complex, Panaji, on October 25 and 26. The festival will be inaugurated by Sushant Khedekar, vice chairperson, Kala Academy, in the presence of P L Verma, member secretary, India International Rural Cultural Centre, New Delhi, at 6.30pm on October 25. The inaugural will be followed by a Bharatanatyam dance recital by Revathi Ramchandran and troupe from Chennai. At 6.30pm on October 26m, Kolkata-based artiste Vikram Iyengar and Ranan dance company troupe (West Bengal) will stage a Kathak performance.
