Siebel Chair in the History of Science at Illinois NamedURBANA, Ill. --(Business Wire)-- C3 Energy Chairman and CEO Tom Siebel provided remarks and was honored in the Investiture of Jimena Canales as the Thomas M. Siebel Chair in the History of Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Friday, Oct. 24.

Investiture as a named chair or professor is one of the highest honors that a faculty member can receive. The ceremony honored both Professor Canales, who was chosen by a committee of peers to hold the chair because of her accomplishments, and Siebel, whose vision of the future of the University brought the chair into existence. In 2006, Siebel established two endowed full professorships, the Thomas M. Siebel Chair in the History of Science and the Thomas M. Siebel Chair in Computer Science at the University. Since then, only two professors have been named as the Chair in the History of Science, Canales last week and Lillian Hoddeson in 2009. Jimena Canales is a professor in the Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts and Science. She received a doctorate and master's degree from Harvard University in the history of science and a bachelor's degree in engineering physics from ITESM. Her work on the history of science had been published in Isis, Science in Context, History of Science, the British Journal for the History of Science, and the MLN: Modern Language Notes, among others.
