IP bar association names new executive director [National Iraqi News Agency (Iraq)]

(National Iraqi News Agency (Iraq) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Lisa K. Jorgenson, the former head of intellectual property and licensing for a Texas manufacturing company, has been chosen to lead the 17,000-member national bar association for intellectual property lawyers.

Jorgenson was named the American Intellectual Property Law Association's new executive director at the association's annual meeting, held over the weekend. She will begin serving effective Nov. 17. "We are thrilled to have Lisa Jorgenson joining us as executive director," AIPLA President Wayne Sobon said in a statement. "With her proven legal and leadership skills, deep knowledge of domestic and international IP concerns, extensive experience and understanding of IP organizations and their role in shaping IP policy and respect in the IP community, Lisa will be invaluable in helping AIPLA's Board of Directors lead our association into its next era." Jorgenson most recently served as the group vice president of intellectual property and licensing at STMicroelectronics, one of the world's largest manufacturers of semiconductor products. Based near Dallas, Texas, she led a multinational IP team responsible for all forms of IP protection in the semiconductor industry. Prior to joining the company in 1990, she was in private practice focusing on commercial litigation at the Dallas office of Bickel & Brewer. Jorgenson also has experience in sales and marketing at Westinghouse Electric Corporation prior to practicing law. "I am excited to join AIPLA as its new executive director, working closely with its talented staff and expert Board of Directors, as the association continues to serve its members and helps shape IP policy domestically and internationally," she said. "I've held numerous positions as an AIPLA member, including leading committees as well as serving on its Board of Directors. I look forward to serving AIPLA in this new capacity, and working with its membership to enhance AIPLA's many initiatives." Jorgenson received her undergraduate degree in biology from Saint Mary's College in Indiana, her master's in industrial management from Purdue University and her law degree from The John Marshall Law School. She previously served as a member of the AIPLA Board of Directors from 2005-08 and recently served as the treasurer for the Intellectual Property Owners Association and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Corporate Patent Counsel. She will replace Q. Todd Dickinson, who stepped down as AIPLA's executive director in July. Dickinson, who previously served as the director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from 1999 to 2001, spent nearly six years with the AIPLA. Dickinson, who was rumored to be appointed to a post within the Obama administration, said he planned to continue working with the IP community.
