Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center adds biometric technology to improve efficiency and security [Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates)]

(Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Omnicell announced that it will provide Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with pharmacy, nursing and data analytics solutions to improve overall workflow efficiencies and patient care. To be installed in 2015, Omnicell's Unity enterprise platform will support the academic medical center with automated medication management solutions across its three hospitals. Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center performed a thorough evaluation process of Unity platform, which involved many of the center's users, including those in pharmacy, nursing, supply chain and IT. The hospital finally selecting Omnicell's Unity platform based on its ability to provide optimized workflow, improved efficiency and interface with its existing electronic health record system. Meanwhile, the pharmacist practitioners were excited about the potential to work with Omnicell to drive new clinical innovations, improve medication management processes, and increase the ability to provide direct patient care within the academic medical center's integrated delivery network.

"One of the major factors that drove our decision to select Omnicell was the enterprise server," said Adam Orsborn, PharmD, MS, director of pharmacy at Wake Forest Baptist Health. "The Pharmacy Department provides critical solutions across our medical center, so the ability to have consistent process quality among all sites with Omnicell's Unity platform is invaluable for us." The Unity enterprise platform includes OmniRx automated medication dispensing cabinets, which also include the Touch & Go advanced biometric ID system; SinglePointe patient medication management software; Anywhere RN remote medication management software; Anesthesia Workstation automated dispensing cabinets; Medication Carousel automated pharmacy retrieval system; WorkflowRx server-based pharmacy inventory management software program; and Pandora Analytics. "We look forward to collaborating with health care providers at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as they implement our enterprise-level technology," said J. Christopher Drew, executive vice president, field operations at Omnicell. "We're excited to partner with a health system that shares our passion for developing innovative solutions that increase the level of care clinicians provide to their patients."
