Arab Health Congress to address hypertension cases in UAE [Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates)]

(Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DUBAI, 29th October, 2014 (WAM) -- Research has highlighted that more than 37% of people in the U.A.E. and 26% in Saudi Arabia are suffering from hypertension, known as 'the silent killer' due to its rare display of symptoms, organisers of the Arab Health Congress said.

Affordability of medication, compliance with treatment and the barriers of lifestyle changes are key concerns for the region, and to help address these, the Arab Health Congress has introduced a new conference endorsed by the European Hypertension Society.

The congress, entitled 1st Gulf Hypertension Conference, aims to provide the most up-to-date clinical and scientific data to tackle the disease with greater and earlier awareness and will bring together more than 30 world renowned experts to discuss current and future challenges and solutions for hypertension in the Middle East.

Dr. Jafar Al-Said, Bahrain Specialist Hospital and Chair of the 1st Gulf Hypertension Conference, said, "Cardiovascular diseases cause 45% of early deaths in the Gulf region alone and with the disease rarely showing any symptoms, the importance of screening and early detection is paramount. The prevalence of hypertension globally according to World Health Organisation is extremely high with one in three people affected; however, recent studies have shown that the prevalence in the Gulf is far worse." The conference will examine the cardiovascular risk factors in hypertensive patients and the treatments of hypertension in certain populations, and analyse clinical case studies. The speakers will also discuss advances in hypertension treatment methods, such as different medication and therapies.

More than 11,000 medical professionals are expected to attend the 2015 edition of the Arab Health Congress which is the world's largest multi-track medical congress offering18 medical conferences.

Arab Health Exhibition and Congress is organised by Informa Life sciences Exhibitions and will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center from 26th-29th January 2015.
