Sandvine secures another customer for virtual series products

(Canada Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Virtualization helps smaller operators compete against larger CSPs, through access to affordable, advanced policy control WATERLOO, ON, Oct. 29, 2014  /CNW/ - Sandvine, (TSX:SVC) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced that SpeedConnect, a Michigan-based operator of fixed and mobile wireless Internet access services has purchased solutions from Sandvine's Virtual Series.

By eliminating the cost and technological complexity associated with a traditional proprietary hardware deployment, Sandvine's Virtual Series gives innovative communications services providers (CSPs) economical access to the same powerful Network Policy Control functions once available only to larger operators.

SpeedConnect purchased multiple instances of Sandvine's Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) Virtual Series, which will be used to manage traffic for an improved subscriber quality of experience.

"A fully virtualized solution was the only way to enable our entire network with advanced policy control capabilities at once," said SpeedConnect Chief Executive Officer, John Ogren. "Through previous acquisitions, we had become familiar both with Sandvine's solutions and those of competitors, but only in traditional deployment models. Sandvine's ability to offer the same policy capabilities through a virtualized solution allowed us to extend the benefits of advanced policy control to all of our subscribers over multiple states in a way that made sense today." Supporting industry and open standards, the Sandvine Virtual Series delivers Sandvine's powerful Policy Engine, PCEF, and PCRF as an elastically-scalable virtual network function for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV)-ready networks. NFV is a carrier-led effort to move away from proprietary hardware, motivated by desires to dramatically reduce the cost of deployment by using standard x86 commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware for everything. Running all functions on identical, shared hardware promises a much simpler, more efficient network.

"Sandvine is very excited to be able to offer the benefits of network policy control to every market segment. Increasingly in North America, operators will compete on the ability to offer truly innovative service plans to their subscribers. The Sandvine Virtual Series helps bring the policy capability that supports those plans to both established operators and young, innovative competitors," said Tom Donnelly, Sandvine's COO, Sales and Global Services.

Related to its NFV initiatives, Sandvine will be presenting on Dynamic, Application-Aware Service Chains in NFV on November 4 as part of the Intel Network Builders webinar series.
