Packet Design to Address SDN/MPLS Conference on Urgency of SDN Analytics

AUSTIN, Texas --(Business Wire)--

At the SDN/MPLS 2014 International Conference to be held Nov. 2-5 in Washington, D.C., Packet Design (News - Alert) CTO Cengiz Alaettinoglu will present the critical analytics needed to effectively run software defined networks (SDN). Using network virtualization as an example, he will illustrate how performance degradation in overlay networks is linked to routing incidents and traffic congestion in underlay networks. A Network Access Broker can remedy these problems by computing and provisioning alternate paths.

Session Title: "SDN Analytics Bridging Overlay and Underlay Networks"

Session Description: To date, the killer application for software defined networks has been network virtualization. Typical implementations use an overlay network or specifically, a set of tunnels over a physical underlay network.

The overlay network enables seamless virtual machine migration, elasticity, and interconnection of virtual machines (VMs) running in the cloud to the VMs and physical devices running in enterprise data centers. The overlay network typically runs over an IP/MPLS network using a variety of tunneling techniques, such as VxLAN, IP/GRE, MPLS over IP, etc. The SDN controllers may use OpenFlow, BGP, XMPP, or layer 2 or 3 VPNs to set up and distribute the overlay tunnel end points.

In this talk, Cengiz Alaettinoglu will present SDN analytics for monitoring (1) the performance of overlay networks, (2) the IP/MPLS control plane protocols in the underlay network, including IGP, BGP, RSVP-TE tunnels, layer 2 and 3 VPNs, and (3) traffic flows.

Date and Time: Tuesday, Nov. 4, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. EST

Packet Design is a platinum sponsor of the conference and will be demonstrating the company's Network Access Broker technology in booth 102. For more information, visit http://www.isocore.com/sdn-mpls.

About Packet Design

Founded in 2003, Packet Design has pioneered route analytics to address today's network management challenges. The Route Explorer System monitors network-wide routing and traffic, providing operational alerts to failures and anomalies. Analyses and DVR-like replay capabilities speed troubleshooting, and routing and traffic modeling helps network planners predict the impact of changes and new workloads. Packet Design's unique real-time routing intelligence will be a critical enabler for the programmable and dynamic software defined networks of the future. The world's largest telecommunications companies, mobile operators, MSOs, service providers, enterprises and government agencies use the Route Explorer System to improve network availability and performance while maximizing the return on assets.
