All-new Google Nexus 6 phablet to ship in November [Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia)]

(Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Together with Nexus 9 tablet by HTC, Google last week announced its largest vanilla Android smartphone to date, the Nexus 6 made by Motorola which will begin accepting pre-orders from October 29.

Google looks to be a believer in the large display phablets which has proven to be a hit with the public, with many especially here in Asia eschewing the traditional below 5-inch displays for the larger and oftentimes more affordable Android handsets from various manufacturers, including the famed Galaxy Note series from Samsung that comes with a multi-function S-Pen stylus.

Motorola’ and Google’s first foray into outsized displays will be a 5.9-inch behemoth pushing a 1440 x 2560 Quad HD resolution with what is expected to be an insane 496ppi pixel density for crystal clear visuals with eye-popping colour. It sounds extremely bulky, but will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor that should be powerful enough to show off the capabilities of Google’s new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system.

Hardware-wise, the physical appearance of the Nexus 6 is very like that of the 2014 Motorola Moto X, with bigger buttons that are set in the centre of the side frame, for presumably easier reach- just like how Apple re-positioned the Wake button for its larger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. A 13-megapixel rear camera sensor is expected to produce the best imagery yet on a Nexus device.

These revisions will apparently result in a heftier price tag for 6 compared to previous devices in the Nexus range, with the price thought to be around US$ 649 (approx RM2,122), nearly double the initial price of the Google Nexus 5 made by LG, which cost US$ 349 (approx RM1,142) at the time without a contract.
