Beebe Names Interim Director for Office of Health Information Technology

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Oct. 24 -- Gov. Mike Beebe, D-Ark., has issued the following news release: Governor Beebe has appointed Shirley A. Tyson as Interim Director of the Arkansas Office of Health Information Technology (OHIT). Tyson will take the position on December 1, 2014, following the retirement of current Director Ray Scott.

Tyson, 49, has served as the Chief Technology Officer for OHIT since its creation in 2010. A native of Pine Bluff, Tyson previously worked in health information technology at the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement.

Scott will retire on November 30, after serving in the administrations of seven Arkansas governors in a variety of leadership positions over a forty year career, including seven years as Director of the Department of Human Services. Beebe chose Scott to serve as Director after creating OHIT by executive order in 2010.

The Arkansas General Assembly then formally established OHIT as a state agency in 2011, with Scott at the helm. Tyson will continue the agency's successful implementation of SHARE, the State Health Alliance for Records Exchange, which provides hospitals and clinics across the state access to health information in real time at the point of care.
