The Times reported that Honda and Takata allegedly knew about the faulty inflators in 2004 but failed to notify NHTSA in previous recall filings of related dangers. According to recent news, potentially 7 million U.S. vehicles are affected. Related recalls have increased since April of 2014, and in July, NHTSA forced additional regional recalls in high-humidity areas including Florida, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Another major recall issued on October 20 expanded the affected vehicles across several brands, according to recent reports.
